Batu Katak...
Is a small village and has 250 residents. Its located 18 km from Bukit Lawang near Gunung Leuser National Park. Before people poached but now they work hard to protect the jungle and surrounding area. They living by working in the palm oil, rubber plantations and cultivation of fruits and vegetables. They like to welcome foreigners into their authentic village.
There are no local busses between Bukit Lawang and Batu Katak. You can arrange transport with us. You can choose to go by motorbike or private car. (1,5 hour drive)

Rafflesia Arnoldii
Raflesia is native to the rainforest in Batu Katak. It’s a rare parasitic, rootless and leafless plant. Also known as the biggest flower in the world.
It has a very strong smell (rotten flash) that’s why they nicknamed it as corps flower. The flower is pollinated by carrion flies, which are attracted by its scent. Rafflesia Arnoldii is rare and hard to find. Especially flowering plants are rare to behold. The flower bud does months to develop, while the flower only a few days remain good.
Amorphophallus
Titanum is native to the rainforests in Batu Katak.
The Amorphophallus titanum inflorescence can be longer than 3 m. The plant consists of a flower basket, urrounded by a bract. The smell of the plant attracts pollinators as carrion beetles and flesh flies. It grow rarely and only remain open for a few days after flowering. The corpse flower must be pollinated within a day of the opening
the best time for growing is between April and October.

Batu Katak offers many limestone caves, but one of the most interesting is the water cave. A one hour walk through plantations and amazing rainforest . Than you find a gap that will be the entrance of the water cave. A 2 hour walk through limestone corridors. In the cave you can find frogs, crickets, spiders and even snakes. The majority of the time you have to wade through knee-deep water and at some spots it can reach till your chest. To find your way out you have to pass narrow and muddy corridor.
